Do Canadians demand enough from business? Or, do we give business free rein to abuse us? We commonly give endless support to business through incentives, subsidies, reduced utility rates in water, electricity, roads, sewage, tax deductions for advertising, and freedom to pollute air and water.
Citizens pay full costs for their own use, plus business’ share. Do Canadians fully account for the costs, versus benefits of the business activities in our society? Have we been brainwashed to believe business should get a free ride, while volunteers take up the slack with food banks and shelters for the homeless? At what point does society require more of business than just private profit?
