The push to raise the minimum wage was directly tied to helping workers in the growing service sector. They represent the type of precarious employment that seems to be on the rise in our economy, and most of the workers in that sector aren’t even making a living wage. There is some suggestion that corporations are using the franchise model to minimize workplace liabilities and leaving the franchisees on the hook for any labour act changes instead of taking responsibility for improving the lot of its workers at the boardroom level.
