Perhaps the most noteworthy Ontario news story to kick off the new year is Bill 148, the Fair Workplace and Better Jobs Act that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

The legislation is the most significant change to Ontario’s labour market in a quarter of a century. The most publicized aspect of the new law is raising the minimum wage by $2.40 from $11.60 to $14 per hour, increasing to $15 per hour in 2019.
