A community report on poverty recommends a local poverty-reduction strategy be created to approach the issue as an urgent problem of human rights and an often traumatic struggle.

Members of Poverty Roundtable Hastings Prince Edward released the report Tuesday at Belleville’s Maranatha Christian Reformed Church. The 44-page report is entitled “Leaning In: Community Conversations on Poverty in Hastings Prince Edward.”

It’s the result of months of interviews with more than 400 people living in poverty across the two counties and examines their experiences. It’s the first of three reports.

The report is a detailed look at the factors which both cause and result from lack of money.
