NDP MPP Teresa Armstrong pushes provincial government to fund social housing repairs
A London MPP is pushing the Liberal government for desperately-needed cash to repair public housing units that are on the verge of falling into disrepair.
A motion from Teresa Armstrong (NDP – London-Fanshawe), asking the provincial government to fund up to one third of the cost needed to fix municipal social housing, gained unanimous support at Queen’s Park on Thursday.
Armstrong said it’s a first step toward addressing issues with London’s aging housing stock. Officials have forecast a $225 million deficit within five years if repairs aren’t made soon.
