The Homelessness Network of Sudbury announced an extreme cold weather alert which will be in place for 24 hours, starting at noon on Dec. 16.
Funded by the City of Greater Sudbury, the alert program activates certain services in order to protect those who are most vulnerable to intensely cold weather conditions.
This short-term emergency plan the alert activates increases community services when the temperature drops below -15 C, when Environment Canada issues a storm watch or weather warning, or when there’s daily low of -20 C with a wind chill. The temperatures are expected to reach a low of -22 C tonight.
