How Canada’s social safety net is woven needs to change now because it’s not preventing poverty or catching vulnerable populations experiencing more extreme levels of hardship which continue to deepen in the region, urged advocates of the Annapolis Valley Poverty Coalition (AVPC).

“It can be a positive story,” said Nancy Stewart of the Nova Scotia Health Authority at a conference in Berwick on Thursday, April 26. “We have over 60 people here talking about what we can do to solve this, which is very positive,” she told the Valley Harvester.
